Ultrasonic Sound Engine

At the heart of SkeeterBeater is a powerful audio engine capable of generating high-frequency sounds in the 15-20 kHz range. While the effectiveness of ultrasonic mosquito repellents is debated in scientific literature, our app gives you full control over the experience.

Three Waveform Modes

  • Continuous - Steady tone at your chosen frequency. Classic and straightforward.
  • Pulsing - Rhythmic on/off pattern that some believe is more effective at disrupting mosquito behavior.
  • Sweep - Continuously varies frequency across the range, covering multiple wavelengths.

Three Stunning Visual Modes

Each mode is designed to simulate the look of real bug zappers, using colors that approximate UV-A wavelengths.

🎾

Racket Zapper

Inspired by handheld electric fly swatters. Features a tennis racket shape with an electrified mesh grid. The deep violet color (#6B0099) simulates 395nm UV-A wavelength. Tap anywhere on screen to trigger a satisfying zap effect!

  • Oval head with mesh grid pattern
  • Random arc effects every 2-5 seconds
  • Tap-to-zap interaction
  • Motion detection support
🏮

Patio Lantern

Modeled after outdoor patio bug zappers. Features a cylindrical design with vertical electrified bars. Uses a blue-violet gradient (#4400AA to #0066CC) simulating 365-400nm UV-A range. Perfect for ambient bug zapping vibes.

  • Decorative lantern housing
  • Vertical bar grid design
  • Pulsing ambient glow
  • Random zap bursts

Full Screen

Maximum screen coverage for the optimal "attractor" experience. Features a 12x8 wire grid with glowing intersections, metal frame, and layered UV radial gradients. Includes a kill counter for tracking your virtual mosquito conquests!

  • 12x8 electrified wire grid
  • UV-A glow with 1.5s pulse cycle
  • Electric arc and spark effects
  • Kill counter display
Technology

PWM Pulse Modulation

Based on scientific research showing that pulse-width modulated (PWM) LED illumination can increase insect attraction by up to 250%, SkeeterBeater implements real PWM simulation.

PWM Settings

  • Base Frequency: 85Hz - Optimized for attraction while remaining imperceptible to the human eye.
  • Duty Cycle: 50-75% - Adjustable to balance brightness and effect.
  • Burst Mode - High-intensity flashes at random 2-5 second intervals simulate real bug zapper activity.

Motion Detection

Turn your iPhone into a real bug zapper racket! SkeeterBeater uses the built-in accelerometer to detect swing motions and trigger zap effects automatically.

How It Works

The app monitors acceleration at 60Hz, calculating the magnitude (g-force) of your movements. When acceleration exceeds the threshold, it triggers:

  • Visual zap effect
  • 🔊 Synthetic zap sound
  • 📳 Haptic feedback

Sensitivity Control

Adjust sensitivity from Low to High:

  • Low (3.5g) - Requires vigorous swings
  • Medium (2.5g) - Default setting
  • High (1.5g) - Triggers with light movement
